MENTORING OUR MOTHERS (MOM)
Family Outreach Dallas provides in-home mentoring to young mothers ages 13 to 24 and their children to age three. This is provided through the Parents as Teachers® program, a research informed home visitation program providing early childhood parenting education through: Personal visits, developmental screenings, group meetings and links to community resources.
Parents as Teachers® is offered through certified parent-educators providing the in-home services and has a focus to create strong families including healthy parent-child attachment, increased literacy rates and enhanced school readiness.
We know children should be safe in their own homes and parents deserve to enjoy their children.
Data from in-home mentoring found:
– 74% of the families that participated in
the in-home mentoring program, self-report
feeling a high degree of stress,
– 59% reported they had suffered from maltreatment
in their own families,
– 86% had limited financial resources
– 74% of cases had previous confirmed incidents
of abuse and neglect
PREVENTION PROGRAMS WORK researchers studied child abuse rates over a 15 year period and found a 79% reduction among families that received home visiting!
